Creative and Aesthetic Art Diary Ideas

For me, art diary is as same as an art journal. I use them in the same way.

So, below, you’ll read about ideas for your art diary or your art journal. I’ll share some photos of my pages and tell you a little bit about how I made them.

1. The simplest idea

This is a very simple idea. You can sketch something quickly, or glue down a sketch you like. Decorate with washi tape, some stamps, star doodles, and your diary journaling.

2. Only a quote

Still keeping it simple. Choose a quote for today, something inspiring or meaningful to you. Print it out or write it in your handwriting. Make a background with paper scraps in muted colors, layer your quote on the page. Add some stickers, doodles or stamps.

3. Include natural elements

To me, some dried flowers and leaves are aesthetic and I love using them in my art diaries. After you dry them, glue them down with washi tape or press with paper scraps. Journal around them, add sme dots and stars, and your page will definitely look aesthetic.

4. Aesthetic art diary idea with an image

Choose a magazine image you love, and then choose some paper scraps in the saame or similar colors. Decorate the page in a way that you like. Add elements like doodles, stars, quotes, journaling, washi tape, stamps, etc. A pressed flower with washi tape is my favorite here!

5. Idea with book pages

If you use book pages in your art diary, and you want an aesthetic look, you can’t be wrong. Old book pages are definitely awesome for this style. You can simply use one page as a background, paint some white acrylic, glue an image, journal on the white paint, and add some decor like washi tape or doodles.

6. Vintage aesthetics

Choose brownish color scheme for papers and paint. I used scrapbook papers for the background. Then, I painted some black and white acrylics for my journaling. Added a few gold stars and a moon. It has a vintage aesthetic vibe to it.

7. Paint the Moon or Moon phases

If you include the Moon in your artistic diary, you can’t go wrong. It brings a mystical aesthetic vibe, and I love that! Again, you can add stars – they’re always dreamy. Some sketches would also be super cool. And you go from there, I’m sure you’ll get plenty of other ideas with the moon.

8. Soft watercolor

Soft watercolor background and your diary entry on top of that – how cool is that? It looks soft, effortless, feminine, and aesthetic. Just remember to use wet on wet technique for this watercolor effect, and maybe a waterproof pen, so you have no accidental smudges.

9. Paper scraps

Without painting or creating mess with water, you can only use paper scraps and create a wonderful aesthetic page. Have fun combining the papers and stickers, and journal all around them with a black pen. Your handwriting will give it another aesthetic and personal vibe.

How to choose things for aesthetic art diary pages?

Here’s what you can use to make your pages more aesthetic:

  • choose color schemes that are soft, vintage, like browns, beige, muted pink, muted yellow, anything muted, actually 🙂
  • if you use paint, paint softly and blend a lot
  • find washi tape in soft colors
  • doodle a lot of dots or stars, use black or gold for this
  • avoid bright and bold colors because they scream: non-aesthetic
  • include pressed leaves and flowers
  • use a fancy handwriting. If you can’t, print out words in a beautiful font you like
  • use poems and quotes for mood, when you don’t know what to write or find it hard to express your feelings with words
  • use old book pages, or if you have none, make your papers look old with paint or tea
